The Mathematics and Computer Science Faculty was founded in 1948 as part of Pedagogical Institute in Timișoara as Mathematics and Physics Faculty. In 1952 was created the Math-Physics field and in 1960 the Geometry field.
In 16th October 1962 the Pedagogical Institute has became University of Timișoara.
Within the University of Timișoara has been created Mathematics-Mechanics Faculty with the following fields: Geometry, Calculus and Mathematics-Physics.
An important moment in the History of Mathematical-Physical Faculty was the foundation of the Computer Science Field in 1971.
In 1974 The Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics along the Physics, Biology and Physical Education Faculties were merged into The Faculty of Natural Sciences that existed until 1990.
In 1990 The Faculty of Natural Sciences merged into The Faculty Mathematics and The Faculty Physics.
In 2004 The Faculty of Mathematics changed it’s name in The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Computer Science (evening program) - between 1984 and 1992
Applied Mathematics - starting 1992
Pure Mathematics - between 1995 and 2001
Computer Science College (3 years) - between 1997 and 2002
Office Supplies ( 3 years) - between 1997 and 2002
Mathematics and Computer Science - starting 1998
Computer Science in English - starting 2004
Applied Computer Science - starting 2007
Since October 2005, according to The Bologna Convention, West University of Timișoara adopts the organisation of higher education in cycles (3 years 1st cycle - Bachelor’s, 2 years 2nd cycle - Masters and 3 years 3rd cycle - PhD)
The Transfer Credit System (ECTS) has been implemented since 1997.
Mathematics and Computer Science are priority areas of study that have led to the extraordinary technical development of our civilization.
